Yesterday, when I was trying to find some pictures in Internet, I found a page where there’s a list of the best pictures ever and you can vote your favourite picture or the picture you think is the best. There are almost 40 pictures, but one of them captured me. It was one that people call vulture waiting; it is very dramatic, because there’s a malnourished and skinny black girl who is watched by a vulture waiting his moment to attack. So I decided to search some information about this photograph.
This photo was taken by Pulitzer Prize winner, photographer Kevin Carter, in 1993. Kevin Carter couldn't do more than chase the vulture away; he couldn't help the girl because he was told by authorities not to touch starving victims, as they may have diseases. After this had happened he committed suicide, and here there’s a parts of his suicide note reads:
"I am depressed ... without phone ... money for rent ... money for child support ... money for debts ... money!!! ... I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings & corpses & anger & pain ... of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners ...”
When you sit to eat, think of the starving children around the world ... be grateful for every piece of bread you put in your mouth.
Be very grateful for the chicken, meat and fish you can afford to enjoy!
Try your best to put this little toddler between your eyes ... when you easily throw away the left-overs in your plate!
While I read this I was thinking about photographer work, because this work is not only take some pictures to show people how’s the world, there are many stories behind theme and I think that we have to share them. Many photographers have to deal with things they see in his life, sometimes things that are very difficult to coexist with theme.
